Formed in 2014, in a sense, the Moonlight Swing Band’s DNA goes back to the 1930s and 40s and the era of the big brass bands, Glenn Miller and Tommy Dorsey, and the crooners who sang on top of them, Ella Fitzgerald, Louis Armstrong, and Frank Sinatra. Regardless of your age, we’re a big band that plays all those tunes you know, just from growing up in America – songs you can at least hum along to if you don’t outright know most of the words. Our playlist has one foot in the past and one foot in the here and now. We’re an all-volunteer community band made up of current and former music teachers and band directors, students, church musicians, business and professional people, and community leaders. We love to play music and we love sharing our music with audiences. In our short history, we’ve played a variety of venues and events – the Raleigh Convention Center, area arts councils, the grand opening of Wilson’s nationally acclaimed Vollis Simpson Whirligig Park, wedding rehearsal dinners, birthday parties, retirement communities, and galas, and have played benefit performances for local nonprofit agencies and organizations. Audiences love our full complement of horns, a rhythm section second to none, and our talented and lovely vocalists. We’ve got a goodthing going – and our good thing just keeps getting better. https://www.facebook.com/events/1137779154048307/
