Readers of thrillers, mysteries and suspense novels will soon have a new destination in downtown Smithfield.

“Once Upon A Crime” recently opened at 230 E. Market St., offering a selection of books across multiple genres with a special emphasis on crime fiction, thrillers and suspense.

Owners Danielle and Aaron Hilton relocated to North Carolina from Gloucester, VA, where they owned and operated a successful independent bookstore. They say they hope to recreate not only the bookstore experience but also the sense of community they built through book clubs and reader events.

While visitors will find an exciting collection of books — with a special focus on thriller and suspense titles — the Hiltons are equally passionate about creating a welcoming gathering place for readers.

The bookstore plans to continue hosting book clubs and community events in Smithfield while providing readers with a place to discover new titles and meet fellow book lovers.

Once Upon A Crime is open from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Tuesday through Friday and 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday.
