What started as a shared love of comics between a father and his daughter has grown into a creative project capturing attention across Johnston County.

AJ Reimann, a Johnston County-based creator, and his daughter Annakah are the voices behind “Talkin’ Comics,” a weekly podcast dedicated to comic books, movies, games and pop culture — all through a fun, family-friendly lens.

Together, the duo brings energy, humor, and heart to each episode, creating a space where families can connect through storytelling.

“At its core, this is about spending time together and sharing something we love,” said Reimann. “Building this alongside my daughter has made it even more meaningful. We want other families to feel like they’re part of it too.”

The podcast features weekly comic pull lists, trivia segments and conversations with inspiring creators from across the comics and entertainment space, alongside discussions on trending movies, shows and games. The show recently surpassed 100 episodes and continues to grow its audience.

Now, Reimann is expanding that vision into print with his original comic book, “The Chronicles of Panel Pete,” an all-ages, fantasy one-shot adventure with a powerful, relatable message.

The story follows a bullied boy who discovers a forgotten dollar-bin comic. When its shape-shifting hero mysteriously escapes the pages, the character secretly helps him find the courage to stand up for himself, make friends and ultimately rewrite his own story.

Blending imagination with real-world themes, “The Chronicles of Panel Pete” focuses on themes like courage, confidence and self-discovery, the power of imagination and storytelling, friendship and overcoming adversity.

“There aren’t enough comics today that kids can just pick up and enjoy,” Reimann said. “This is the kind of story that reminds you how powerful comics can be — not just as entertainment, but as inspiration.”

The comic book reflects the same mission as the podcast: to create content that families can experience together without relying on overly mature themes, while still delivering exciting and meaningful stories.

The project is currently being shared with the community through outreach and crowdfunding efforts, giving local supporters and comic fans an opportunity to help bring “Panel Pete” to life.
