Life coaching is designed to help people move forward — not by giving advice, but by helping them find their own answers. For women feeling stuck, overwhelmed or unsure of their next step, the process can offer clarity, direction and accountability in a supportive environment.

“Life Coaching is a safe space to explore emotions and belief systems that may be stopping you from doing what you want with your life. It is a no-judgement zone where you can discuss and work through obstacles that are in your way,” said JoAnn Janke, owner of Take Action Life Coaching. Through open-ended questions, coaching helps clients define goals, gain clarity and stay accountable for progress. It is, she emphasizes, “client driven work, not advice or therapy.”

That distinction is important. “Life coaching is client driven. We don’t provide suggestions, solutions or advice,” Janke said. Instead, clients learn to listen to their inner voice, identify obstacles and decide what success looks like for them. Therapy and counseling, she explained, rely more on prescriptive methods to diagnose and treat mental health concerns, and sometimes people discover they need one approach over the other.

Coaching can support women working through relationship questions, career concerns, family life, education choices, perfectionism or dissatisfaction in nearly any area of life. Janke often sees women who feel stretched too thin.

“A lot of women are struggling with capacity,” she said, describing those who feel responsible for spouses, children, parents, friends and employers while leaving little time for themselves. “I want every woman reading this to know they have a choice every day. It may not be easy, but it is simple. Choose yourself.”

Janke’s own journey helps her connect with clients facing change. After nearly 40 years in a corporate career, she understood that stability does not always mean satisfaction. Though she was able to financially support herself, the work never felt fulfilling. She wanted more freedom and flexibility, and a way to be of service while directly helping others. That search led her to launch Take Action Life Coaching.

Her path is also shaped by personal experience. She underwent bariatric surgery and lost 100 pounds 11 years ago. Like many women, she has faced weight fluctuations and the emotional adjustments that can follow major physical changes. Today, she works with clients navigating all sorts of life’s challenges, including career transitions and weight maintenance after bariatric surgery, where identity shifts and social changes can feel overwhelming.

Through coaching, Janke helps women trust their own instincts, take small actionable steps and build lives that feel more aligned with who they are — one decision at a time.
