A Passion Turned Into a Business
Founder Christine Gaskill knows firsthand how difficult it can be to keep dogs clean. For over a decade, she cared for her beloved German Shepherds, Piper and Kantor, and often found traditional grooming expensive and inconvenient. After retiring in early 2024 from a 28-year corporate career, she set out to create a better way for dog owners to wash their pets—one that is quick, easy and sustainable.
She carefully designed The Dog Wash Self Service Salon with pet owners and their furry friends in mind, selecting top-quality, easy-to-use equipment made in North Carolina and ensuring the facility was safe, clean and eco-conscious.
A Sustainable Approach to Dog Grooming
Unlike traditional baths that use 20+ gallons of water, each wash at The Dog Wash uses only approximately 5 gallons, making it a greener choice for dog owners. The facility also features plant-based shampoos and conditioners which are gentle on dogs and safer for the environment.
Located in the West End Plaza on Main Street in Clayton, the business utilizes motion-sensor lighting which reduces energy waste by only turning on when needed.
Customers should bring their own towel, or they can purchase one onsite from the vending machine, and they can pick up a free seasonal bandana for their freshly washed pup.
Prioritizing Safety for Pets and Owners
In addition to being eco-friendly, The Dog Wash is designed for safety and comfort. Each washing station is individually gated. Separating stations ensures a calm, controlled environment, especially for dogs that may be nervous around others pets or people.
The design is family-friendly and the gated setup provides peace of mind for parents bringing along young children.
The stations are spacious and secure. Waist-high tubs with leash hooks help keep dogs steady while owners stay comfortable.
