Pet Edition: One stop with two ways to handle bathtime

In Downtown Clayton’s West End Plaza, dog owners now have two ways to care for their pets, all in one convenient location.

The Dog Wash Self Service Salon has been serving the community for more than a year, offering an easy solution to one of pet ownership’s messiest tasks: bathtime, without having to scrub down your bathroom afterward.

Designed with multiple enclosed washing stations, it gives pet owners access to professional-grade equipment without the hassle of scheduling appointments or cleaning up at home. Each station features dryers and hypoallergenic, plant-based soaps and conditioners designed to be gentle on your pet’s skin.

Open daily from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m., the space is built for flexibility, whether it is a quick rinse after a muddy afternoon or part of a regular routine. Pets won’t have to walk through a retail store or a crowded, distracting environment to reach the stations at The Dog Wash as the space is dedicated just for pet bathing.

Owner Christine Gaskill encourages customers to come prepared by bringing a towel and to have a little fun while you’re there. The shop’s selfie wall offers the perfect backdrop to capture your dog looking fresh and clean before heading home, and the vending machine offers grooming tools and healthy treats to reward your pet. Make sure to grab a free bandana before capturing that photo.

You can even watch a video online ahead of time to know how to operate the machines and what to expect ahead of time, or catch the video live within the salon.

Recently, the location’s offerings expanded with the addition of The Groom Gallery, located inside just beyond the self-service stations. Owner Heather Offhaus brings more than 20 years of experience working with dogs and cats of all sizes, and her approach is rooted in creating a calm, low-stress environment.

The Groom Gallery’s space is intentionally designed to keep dogs and cats comfortable, with a calm setting and a quiet lifting table to adjust based on the pet’s height. Appointments are handled one-on-one to ensure each animal receives focused attention with the belief that grooming is more than just cosmetic – it’s a form of healthcare.

That individualized care is especially valuable for pets that may be anxious, fearful or have special needs. With a patient approach and a skillset that includes pet CPR certification, she prioritizes both safety and trust while delivering grooming services that keep dogs looking and feeling their best and taking the stress of bathtime off the owner’s shoulders.

Together, the two businesses give pet owners options for whatever works best for their animal and their schedule, whether it’s a quick, do-it-yourself wash or a full-service grooming appointment.
