The inaugural year of the Academy of Small Business has been an inspiring journey filled with innovation, collaboration, and hands-on learning. Designed to equip students with real-world entrepreneurial skills, the Academy has provided a dynamic environment where young minds can thrive. From launching business ventures to networking with industry professionals, students have been immersed in experiences that shape their future careers.

A Curriculum Built for Future Entrepreneurs

The Academy’s curriculum is designed to provide students with a comprehensive understanding of business principles. Throughout the year, students engaged in coursework covering financial literacy, marketing strategies, business ethics and operational management. Guest speakers from local businesses and alumni entrepreneurs enriched classroom learning by sharing their expertise and offering mentorship.

Skills Labs and Professional Development

One of the hallmarks of the Academy has been its emphasis on career readiness through specialized skills labs. Students participated in workshops focused on personal branding, résumé building, interview preparation, soft skills development and leadership training. These labs provided students with essential tools to navigate the professional world with confidence.

The highlight of the year was the APLE (Authentic Personalized Learning Experience), where students showcased their soft skills training, gaining firsthand experience in customer engagement and sales strategies while applying their newly developed professional skills.

Community Engagement and Industry Partnerships

The Academy of Small Business fostered strong connections between students and the local business community. Through partnerships with small businesses, students participated in job shadowing, internships and mentorship programs. These opportunities not only provided valuable industry insights but also helped students build professional networks that will benefit them beyond the classroom.

Looking Ahead: The Future of the Academy

As the Academy of Small Business prepares for its second year, plans are underway to expand opportunities for students. New partnerships, advanced business simulations and additional funding resources will enhance the program’s offerings. A future highlight of their Senior year will be the Business Expo, where students will showcase their products and services, gaining firsthand experience in customer engagement and sales strategies while applying their cultivated professional skills.

With the enthusiasm and commitment demonstrated by the first cohort, the Academy is poised to become a cornerstone of small business education for future generations.

The inaugural year of the Academy of Small Business has proven to be a resounding success, paving the way for aspiring entrepreneurs to turn their ambitions into reality. With continued support from educators, business leaders, and the community, the Academy will continue to inspire and empower the next generation of small business owners.
