Everyday observations and the beauty of the natural world are at the heart of Smithfield resident Dale Austin’s first published collection of poetry.

“Putting Salt on a Bird’s Tail: Words of Wisdom,” the debut poetry collection, was recently released through Cushing Publishing.

“Putting Salt on a Bird’s Tail” offers readers a collection of profound, succinct insights and words of wisdom woven through evocative, nature-themed verses. Inspired by the quiet observations of everyday life, Austin’s poetry encourages introspection and a deeper appreciation for the moments that define the human experience.

Cushing Publishing’s decision to publish Austin’s collection was driven by the universal appeal and distinct voice found in the manuscript.

“Dale Austin’s poetry resonated with us immediately,” said Rose Cushing, publisher. “His work has a simplicity that is deceptive, revealing layered meaning with subsequent reads. (It’s) the type of collection that readers will return to often, making it a natural fit for our catalog.”

Austin is a first-time author whose poetry is inspired by years of quiet contemplation. His work focuses on finding extraordinary wisdom in ordinary moments. Austin, the nephew of Sam Ragan, NC Poet Laureate, proves that the rhythm of words runs in the family.

The book is available on Ingram Spark, Amazon, Barnes & Noble and wherever books are sold and is available in both eBook and paperback formats.
