JoCo Angels 3rd Annual Overdose Awareness Day will be held Saturday, Aug. 26 from 4-9 p.m. at Benson Grove Park. Bring your resources and set up a table and tent or just bring a chair and come and enjoy the music, food and testimonies with the others in the community. All are welcome and please invite others. There will also have face painting and fun for the kids. Any vendor that is just passing out information will be free of charge, however anyone selling merchandise will need a $25 permit that can be picked up at the Parks and Rec building on Johnson St. in Benson. The Whisnants will perform Sunday, June 25 at 4 p.m. as the finale of the State Annual Singing Convention at the Benson Singing Grove, 400 E. Main St.
Karen Peck and New River will perform Saturday, June 24 at 7 p.m. at the Benson Singing Grove, 400 E. Main St., to cap off the day at the State Singing Convention.
On Friday, June 23 beginning at 7 p.m., visit the Benson Singing Grove for a night featuring choirs from all over the area. The finale of the night will be a performance by the Wilmington Celebration Choir. This is the kickoff for the State Annual Singing Convention.
The State Annual Singing Convention will take place June 23-25 at the Benson Singing Grove. The State Annual Singing Convention, which brings thousands of people to Benson each year, began modestly in a tobacco warehouse in 1921. About 200 people listened to two choirs that day. Since that time, the State Annual Singing Convention has grown and become one of the largest and oldest gospel sings in the United States. The singing is held outdoors in downtown Benson in a beautiful one-block oak grove located at 400 E Main St, Benson. Some seating is provided, however, spectators are encouraged to bring lawn chairs. There is no charge to attend the sing. The event will begin at 7 p.m. Friday, June 23. Various community choirs will sing with the last group scheduled for 8:50 p.m. On Saturday, June 24, the Gospel Sing Competition will be held at 10 a.m. followed by various groups throughout the day.
