Since its founding in 2015, the Junior Women’s League of Smithfield has been dedicated to developing women as trained volunteers and community advocates while creating meaningful, lasting impact throughout Johnston County. Through monthly leadership development, hands-on service, and collaborative partnerships, the League empowers women to grow personally and professionally while strengthening the community they call home.
This spring, the League is continuing that mission through its ongoing Blessing Boxes Food Drive, which supports local food insecurity efforts.
Food insecurity is one of the founding issues that JWL identified in our community. JWL has built and maintains donations for nine Blessing Boxes throughout Johnston County. Donations of shelf-stable food items such as canned goods, pasta, rice, cereal and hygiene products help stock Blessing Boxes across the county, providing free and accessible food to neighbors facing temporary hardship. Community members are encouraged to contribute and help ensure these boxes remain filled for those who need them most.
In addition to its service initiatives, the League will host its signature fundraiser, Big Night Out BINGO, on March 28, 2026, at the Johnston County Agricultural Center. The evening will feature bingo, prizes and fellowship, with proceeds supporting the League’s community programs, including the Blessing Boxes initiative, scholarships and local impact grants to support women and children in Johnston County.
Women who are passionate about giving back and growing as leaders are invited to learn more about joining the Junior Women’s League of Smithfield. Membership offers the opportunity to build friendships, develop leadership skills and make a tangible difference in Johnston County.
