FOUR OAKS – CommWell Health, a local nonprofit Community Health Center system serving southeastern North Carolina, has renamed its Operations Center Administrative building in Four Oaks the Nathan Johnson Tilghman Professional Building. The change honors Tilghman, a longtime board chair and member, for his visionary leadership, mentorship and philanthropic support.
Tilghman has been a generous supporter of the CommWell Health Foundation, achieving the organization’s highest donor recognition at the Diamond Eagle level.
“Such philanthropy is essential for the Foundation’s mission to improve the quality of life for the communities we serve,” said Tim Butler, Chair of the CommWell Health Foundation.
A native of Harnett County, Tilghman carries on a family legacy in healthcare. His grandfather, Nathan M. Johnson, established Dunn’s first hospital, Betsy Johnson Hospital.
Since becoming CommWell Health Board chair in 1994, Tilghman has guided strategic initiatives that have expanded healthcare access across southeastern NC, including the recent groundbreaking of the state-of-the-art Four Oaks multi-disciplinary practice.
“Johnson’s leadership has been pivotal in steering the board’s strategic direction, keeping patient care at the forefront of CommWell Health priorities,” said Pamela Tripp, Chief Executive Officer. “His three decades of dedicated service reflect an unwavering commitment to community health and have shaped the organization’s growth, ensuring quality healthcare reaches those in need.”
Founded in 1976, CommWell Health provides comprehensive medical, dental, and behavioral health services, focusing on those who are underinsured or uninsured. The CommWell Health Foundation, established in 2018 as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, raises funds to support patient care initiatives and community well-being.
