Daniel Turner, Maurice Love and Austin Lett, all senior standouts at North Johnston, made their college choices recently.
Turner, who competed in wrestling, football and baseball for the Panthers, signed at the University of Mount Olive for wrestling, Love, a baseball player and wrestler during his time in high school, is signing for baseball at Brevard while Lett, a football player, wrestler and track and field athlete, is also heading to Brevard and plans to play football.
“I chose Mount Olive because it feels like home to me,” Turner said in a press release. “I know many people there and lots of my friends are also on the wrestling team. After not placing at states, I have a huge urge to get better and wrestle in college, and I think Coach Willis will not only make me a better wrestler, but a better person too.”
The son of Chrystal and Dan Turner, Turner won the NCHSAA MidEast Regional and was the team’s most outstanding wrestler.
Love, the son of Christen and Maurice Love, is among the team leaders in batting so far this spring for the Panthers, and plans to study business in college.
“I like the atmosphere, the environment, and the baseball program,” he said in a press release. “(I’d like to thank) all the North Johnston baseball coaches, my parents, my brother and my teammates.”
Lett, a Neuse 6 all-conference selection for the Panthers as a senior, participated in the Hawaii Tiki Bowl and was also a letterman in wrestling and track and field during his time at North Johnston.
He’s the son of Shawn and Renee Lett and Dana Harshfield, plans to study exercise science.
“I would like to thank my family, friends and all my coaches,” he said in a press release. “Ever since my first visit to Brevard as a sophomore, I knew that Brevard would be the place I wanted to be after high school. They have everything for me to strive academically. Their football program is great, and the atmosphere is awesome.
“This wouldn’t be possible without God. He has stuck with me through the hardships and gave me faith and strength to do this. Philippians 4:13 says, “I can do all things through Christ which strengthens me.”
